I spent a lovely week in Wellingborough with a group of year 6 children. Together we realised a group of fairytale characters. The children will keep these puppets in order to tell stories around the school and to give life to the characters! I made up puppet making packs for the children, starting with large polystryrene balls and various connecting parts. The process was almost like a puzzle to solve and they were absolutely fantastic at it! We then started to create the character to the faces and parts of the body. We made giant noses, and even down to the finer details of making finger nails for the witch! The next task was to paint the puppets , then we were on to adding the clothes and threading the hair on to the characters. The week ended in a rehearsal and an assembly infront of the school, an introduction to the new members of the class. It was great working with the students, and we had great fun bringing the puppets to life by walking them up and down the hall, through the school, and even up the stairs! A big thank you to Karen who was fab throughout the week, and to the school for being so lovely.
